Whirligig Part 1 – wood chopper timber cutouts
October 22, 2017 @ 10:00 am - 4:00 pm$90
Part 1 of the whirligig class will introduce you to the basics of whirligig construction. Using a template you will trace your shapes onto plywood and use a scroll saw to cut out your pieces. You will also use a drill, table saw and sander in the preparation of your pieces and propellor. You will then get to personalise your whirligig by painting it in your chosen colours. For longevity of the whirligig, the pieces will need to be varnished once the paint has dried. Participants will be given the option of returning during the week to apply the varnish prior to the Part 2 class or alternatively we are happy to apply the varnish for you ready for the next class.
The class has been scheduled to go all day to allow for painting, however if you only want a simple colour scheme you may finish early. We will have periodic rest breaks during the day and participants are welcome to use our fridge and microwave if you would like to BYO lunch.
We are happy to do any of the woodworking parts of the class for participants that want to learn the process but aren’t comfortable with using power tools.
