Introduction to 3D Game Development and Programming in C/C++

Learn how to program and create your own 3D games! From a 3D shooter, 2D side scroller to 3D RTS: this is the starting point for a career in games programming.

What You Will Learn

  • Setting up your editing environment
  • A review of C/C++
  • Make your first GLUT application

  • All materials and tools are provided
  • We have a lounge area and coffee machine for non-participants to use
  • Participants leave the workshop with the ability to create a simple computer game which uses 3D graphics
  • They will take home a simple 3D game with full documentation provide

In-Depth Course Plan

  • Review of C/C++
  • Setting up your editing environment
  • Your first GLUT application
  • 3D elements, viewports, projection matrices and mathematics
  • Feedback from the mouse and keyboard
  • A simple 2D application - Asteroids
  • Final task - a simple 3D shooter

Desired / prerequisite skills: Participants should have either taken a computer programming course or have some experience in programming. Knowledge of computer systems is also handy.
