Cosplay 101: How to get started
April 5, 2017 @ 11:00 am - 12:30 pm$40
Have you ever wanted to make your own costumes but don't know where to start? Do you enjoy pop culture and comic conventions and would like to start wearing your own costumes to them? In this workshop you will learn from a seasoned cosplayer about the process of planning, budgeting and creating a costume. You will then get to plan your own costume from scratch with the guidance of a professional. This workshop is a companion to the Sewing Basics/Sewing 101 workshop that will be running from 1.30 to 3.30. It is not essential that you attend both, but highly advised as it will give you a rounded base of knowledge to start your costume project.
You will learn: how to plan, source, budget and start creating a costume from the ground up. If you have brought a reference image for a costume you would like to make in the future, then you will leave with a fully planned costume ready to be made.
What is provided: Writing and reference material.
What you need to bring: Please bring a couple of reference photos of a costume you would like to work on in the future. This can be a costume from TV/movie/comics/anime/video games/graphic novels/manga/etc or a costume you have designed yourself. If you don't have any ideas, then don't stress, it will not affect your experience as it will only mean that you wont have a costume plan to take home for yourself. An example will be given to you on the day so that you can put your new knowledge into practice with the help of the instructor. If you do not have access to a printer, just bring your images in on a USB and we can print them for you on the day. Also, you may want to bring a note pad to take notes or write any of your ideas, otherwise extra paper will be provided on the day.
You must wear enclosed footwear.
Suitable for: Teens and adults. Participants under 18 must be accompanied by an adult.
Workshop presenter: Chantelle Norton (details of our workshop presenters can befound on the About Us page of our website).
