3D printing – a quick start for beginners

Class Description

This instructional workshop will cover the basic process of 3D printing. It is designed to teach you what you need to know to get started with 3D printing. The class will be taught using a Flashforge Dreamer 3D printer, however you will be able to apply what you learn in this class to your own equipment.

What is covered

  • 3D printer hardware - setting up your printer ready for a print job, loading filament and basic maintenance
  • 3D printer software - understanding the print settings and terminology
  • 3D print files - where to go to find free downloads and acknowledging file uploaders
  • 3D design software - a quick look at 123D design program for designing your own 3D models
  • 3D model making - how to: remove the raft and support structures, clean up rough edges, join parts of a model printed in sections and time permitting a look at painting techniques

What is provided: All materials and tools are provided. Each participant will get a pre-printed 3D model to practice removing the raft and cleaning it up ready for painting, which you are welcome to take home.

What you need to bring: You don't need to bring anything, however you must wear enclosed footwear.

Suitable for: Ages 11 years plus. Participants under 18 must be accompanied by an adult. We have a lounge area and coffee machine for non-participants to use.

Cancellation Policy: As we purchase materials based on the number of attendees for each workshop we are unable to refund tickets. We do welcome you to pass your ticket to a friend to come in your place. Please email us if you do wish to change the name on the ticket. In the event that the class is cancelled by Hobbymedo, fees will be refunded or alternative dates offered.

Further classes will be scheduled depending on demand. You are welcome to email us with your preferred days and times for workshops. We also welcome requests for particular workshops.
